Irina Vlah, leader of the Republican Party Inima Moldovei, has addressed an open letter to the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Moldova and to development partners, explaining her position regarding the restrictive measures imposed on her by the Council of the European Union.
In the letter, Vlah states that the sanctions were applied without the existence of a final court decision, an official conclusion from a competent authority, or publicly available evidence linking her or her party to the actions cited as justification. She emphasizes that she respects EU institutions and their role in safeguarding democracy and the rule of law, but argues that the situation requires an individual assessment based on verifiable facts and clear legal reasoning.
Vlah notes that some public references relate to a protest held in July 2025, which she says was organized not by her or by Inima Moldovei, but by the Party of Socialists. According to her, official registration documents confirm this, and the administrative cases examined by national courts concerned individuals affiliated with the Socialists, not her party. She adds that no court ruling attributes responsibility to her or to Inima Moldovei.
She also points out that the protest was never declared illegal and that several court decisions in related cases reaffirm the principle of individual responsibility and the need for sufficient evidence rather than assumptions or indirect associations.
Regarding party financing, Vlah states that checks conducted by the Central Electoral Commission found no violations, and that there is no official evidence suggesting external control or links to individuals associated with the Shor group. She further clarifies that her political trips to the Russian Federation were public, legally declared, and carried out within the framework of political activity.
Addressing claims that she and Victoria Furțună were on the same flight, Vlah says the trip was a private visit related to family matters and that no evidence exists of coordinated political activity.
Vlah concludes by calling for a thorough, evidence‑based reassessment of the situation, stressing that her letter is not a challenge to the role of EU institutions but a call for adherence to the principles of legality, proportionality and respect for fundamental rights.
