President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, will participate on June 22 in the Moldova–European Union Summit, which will take place in Brussels. The EU will be represented by António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen.
The Moldova–European Union Summit is a high-level dialogue format established by both sides and reflects the increasingly close partnership between Moldova and the EU, as well as the strong commitment to the country’s accession to the European bloc. This year’s meeting takes place one week after the official opening of accession negotiations on the first cluster of chapters, “Fundamentals,” marking a new stage in Moldova’s European integration path.
During the summit, leaders will discuss the next steps in the accession negotiations and the Republic of Moldova’s reform agenda. Both the European Commission and the European Council have confirmed that Moldova is ready to open negotiations on all clusters of chapters, in line with the merit-based accession process.
The summit agenda will also include discussions on the regional situation, strengthening cooperation in security, defense, and energy, as well as EU support for Moldova’s economic development.
At the conclusion of the summit, the leaders will adopt a joint declaration and hold a press conference.
