Prime Minister: The Coșnița Plateau is a place of memory and sacrifice. The future of the Republic of Moldova was decided here

The fallen heroes of the Coșnița Plateau, who defended the independence and territorial integrity of our country during the 1992 Nistru War, were commemorated today through a Peace March. The event was attended by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

“The Coșnița Plateau is a place of memory and sacrifice. The future of the Republic of Moldova was decided here. Ordinary people—farmers, teachers, workers—became defenders of this country. It was a trial for our young state, but Moldova did not give in. Moldova stood firm and chose a clear path: the path of freedom, the path of democracy, the European path,” the Prime Minister said.

The Head of Government paid tribute to those who lost their lives for the freedom of the Republic of Moldova and expressed gratitude to the veterans of the Nistru War, noting that their sacrifice remains a lesson of responsibility and solidarity for the younger generation and for society as a whole. He also emphasized that the brutal war waged by the Russian Federation in Ukraine is a reminder of how fragile peace is and how high the price of freedom can be.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the Government’s efforts to support veterans and the families of those who fell in the war. To strengthen social protection and gradually increase state assistance, the Law on War Veterans was adopted.

“We will continue to do more for veterans because true respect is not expressed only through words. Respect must be seen in actions, but the greatest duty we have toward veterans is to build a strong Moldova: a united, free, and secure Moldova. A country where people live without fear, where children grow up in peace and stay at home,” stated Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

The Peace March takes place annually, on March 14, along the main street of Coșnița, in memory of the more than 40 heroes who lost their lives on the plateau.
