As a reaction to the deep crisis affecting the agricultural sector, the opposition consolidated and submitted a simple motion of censure. The statement was made by Igor Dodon, leader of the Socialist parliamentary faction, TRIBUNA reports.
The Socialist noted that the Minister of Agriculture will be obliged to come before Parliament to provide explanations and answer for inaction and policies harming farmers.
“This motion reflects the opposition’s commitment to defend agriculture and the interests of domestic producers,” he emphasized.
Today, during the Parliament session, Serghei Ivanov, MP of Our Party and Chair of the Committee for Agriculture and Food Industry, presented the simple motion against Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga. The motion was signed by 42 MPs from various opposition factions.
Lawmakers put forward several demands to the ministry, including drafting a package of concrete measures to support agricultural producers and prevent disruption of the spring farming campaign. Specifically, they called for urgent identification of financial sources to cover debts owed to subsidy applicants for 2024–2025, compensation for losses caused by natural disasters, reimbursement of VAT and excise paid for diesel fuel used in agriculture, capping commercial markups on phytosanitary products and fertilizers, and subsidizing up to 30% of the cost of domestic seeds and planting material.
An important point is the proposed increase of the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development by 1.4 billion lei — a necessary and urgent measure, proportionate to the state’s commitments and essential to avoid collapse of the agricultural sector.
