Bulgaria remains a steadfast supporter of the Republic of Moldova on its European path and in the implementation of projects that ensure the well-being of the country’s citizens. The statement was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and the Ambassador of Bulgaria to the Republic of Moldova, Maya Dobreva, TRIBUNA reports.

The officials praised the friendly relations between the two countries, built on a solid framework of cooperation in several areas — education, culture, energy, and infrastructure — as well as the presence of Moldova’s sizeable Bulgarian community. “The Bulgarian community represents an important part of our society, with hardworking people who uphold beautiful values and traditions. Through multicultural diversity, the entire country becomes richer,” the Prime Minister stated.

In this context, the officials highlighted the success of joint projects in education, such as the opening in Taraclia of a branch of Bulgaria’s “Angel Kanchev” University, which in its first year of activity is training more than 2,000 students. Additionally, several mayors from the Republic of Moldova have taken part in training seminars on accessing European funds and projects for local public authorities, thanks to support provided by the Government of Bulgaria.

The parties also discussed the regional situation, the need to strengthen resilience, and energy security, noting the importance of signing the contract between Energocom and Bulgartransgaz.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of enhancing economic relations within the framework of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission to increase trade exchanges and attract investments to the Republic of Moldova.

In 2024, Bulgaria ranked 10th among Moldova’s main trading partners. The value of Moldova’s foreign trade with Bulgaria reached 267.7 million US dollars in 2024.
