Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova demands urgent convening of the Supreme Security Council

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM) has once again issued a strong call for the immediate convening of the Supreme Security Council following the detention at the Albita customs checkpoint of a vehicle transporting military weapons and ammunition, despite possessing valid documents issued by Moldovan customs authorities.

In its statement, the party emphasized that the nature of the discovered cargo, combined with the country’s proximity to an active conflict zone, requires the situation to be treated not as an isolated incident but as a symptom of deep systemic vulnerability. LDPM pointed to possible institutional corruption, infiltration of organized crime into customs and border infrastructure, and covert operations carried out on Moldovan territory in the interests of external actors.

The party stressed that this case cannot be interpreted solely as an attempt at smuggling, as its nature suggests the existence of complex mechanisms of transportation, transshipment, and concealment of military equipment that go far beyond traditional economic crime.

Public statements by certain state institutions claiming that the detained truck allegedly did not cross Moldovan territory, according to LDPM, only heighten concerns and generate alarming scenarios. The party warned of the possible existence of a resilient criminal or paramilitary infrastructure within Moldova, capable of bypassing customs and border procedures through corruption or methods characteristic of professional intelligence services.

LDPM insists that the Supreme Security Council must include on its agenda a comprehensive analysis of the actions and inactions of the Intelligence and Security Service, Customs Service, Border Police, and other competent bodies, as well as an assessment of the risks of Moldova’s transport infrastructure — road, port, rail, and air — being used for clandestine arms transfers.

Given the potential external and military-political nature of the phenomenon, the party also considers the involvement of intelligence and counterintelligence units of the National Army essential to determine whether Moldova’s territory is being used solely for transit or, in a more dangerous scenario, for storage of weapons and preparation of military or geopolitical operations.

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova firmly demands: the urgent convening of the Supreme Security Council, institutional transparency, political accountability, and the full mobilization of all state structures to safeguard the security of the Republic of Moldova.
