“The truck carrying weapons was discovered last night by the Romanian customs authority, following a request from the Moldovan customs officer to initiate the inspection, given that the scanner is located on the Romanian side. This case highlights how crucial it is to have high-performance scanning equipment at all border crossing points,” stated Customs Service Director Radu Vrabie, as reported by TRIBUNA.
The official clarified that the Customs Service has notified the Prosecutor’s Office, criminal proceedings have been initiated, and the institution is fully committed to ensuring the investigation is carried out as swiftly as possible.
“National security and border security are our fundamental priorities, and any violation will be met with strict sanctions.
In collaboration with Romanian institutions and Moldova’s law enforcement bodies, the Customs Service will conduct its own internal investigation to identify any potential elements of corruption or security vulnerabilities,” he emphasized.
