Nicu Popescu, Special Envoy for European Affairs and Strategic Partnerships, is participating today in Brussels in a discussion alongside European Council President António Costa and Ministers for European Affairs Jessica Roséncrantz (Sweden), Joakim Strand (Finland), and Claudia Plakolm (Austria). The event focuses on what EU enlargement has meant over the past 30 years and what it means for Europe’s future, according to TRIBUNA.
“I will speak about the Republic of Moldova, about the steps we have already taken, and how we can accelerate our path toward the European Union. Every wave of enlargement has made the Union stronger, more stable, and more united. It brought peace where there were conflicts, democracy where there were dictatorships, and prosperity where there was once uncertainty,” Popescu stated.
He further emphasized that just as the accession of Austria, Finland, and Sweden strengthened the Union 30 years ago, Moldova’s integration will extend this space of peace and cooperation to our borders. “In today’s discussions and in my daily work with European partners, I will continue to explain why an EU-member Moldova makes the Union safer and why we need as many supporters as possible for accelerating our accession negotiations,” he underlined.
