Nicu Popescu, Special Envoy for European Affairs and Strategic Partnerships, stated that the European Commission’s latest report confirms Moldova has met the conditions to open Clusters 1 (Fundamentals), 2 (Internal Market), and 6 (External Relations). All clusters are expected to be opened by the end of the year. According to Popescu, provisional closure of negotiations by early 2028 is realistic if the pace of reforms is maintained, TRIBUNA reports.
The official highlighted Moldova’s strong progress, especially in the energy sector, which received a “very good progress” rating.
“We are leading in Cluster 2 – Internal Market (chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 6) and Cluster 3 – Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth (chapters 10, 17, 19, 25). In Cluster 6 – External Relations, our country maintains a solid level of progress.
Despite hybrid threats and destabilization attempts, Moldova has advanced significantly on the path to EU accession, successfully completing the screening process”, Popescu noted.
