Members of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) have announced they will not take part in the consultations initiated by the head of state regarding the nomination of a candidate for Prime Minister.
According to the communists, Maia Sandu has distorted this legal procedure both in form and substance.
“Firstly, the proposed candidate for Prime Minister, contrary to the Constitution and common sense, was announced and widely publicized — including by Maia Sandu herself — before the official validation of the new Parliament and long before the formation of parliamentary factions with whom the President is obliged to consult. This means the decision was already made, not by Sandu, but by her patrons, and the subsequent consultations became a meaningless formality.”
“Secondly, the format of the invitation and the conditions of the meeting are a clear affront to elected deputies, reflecting the arrogance and lack of tact of Maia Sandu. The so-called ‘invitation’ was signed by a deputy secretary of state — a second-tier official. The meeting is set to take place at the Presidential Administration, although traditionally such consultations are held in Parliament. Moreover, PCRM was asked to send only three deputies, with no explanation for this discriminatory limitation.”
“Thirdly, Maia Sandu’s legitimacy as head of state, constitutional guarantor, and moral authority is questionable. She lost the elections within the country, lacks public respect, and is perceived as a source of aggression toward her own citizens, dividing society and leading a de facto dictatorial regime.”
Under these circumstances, participation in the consultations loses all meaning: “Disrespect for the Constitution, the law, the deputies, and the voters — along with Maia Sandu’s questionable legitimacy — prevents the PCRM faction from taking part in these consultations.”
