Officers from the INI’s Directorate for Economic Crime Investigations, together with BPDS “Fulger” police and PCCOCS prosecutors, have documented a complex case involving money laundering, cryptocurrency conversion, and illegal financing of political activities.
The case concerns a 39-year-old man suspected of managing transactions through an international platform known for facilitating the conversion of Russian rubles into other currencies, with the aim of circumventing international sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation following its military invasion of Ukraine, reports TRIBUNA.
He allegedly carried out conversions exceeding $150,000 and managed financial resources originating from Russia on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Investigators found that he used intermediaries and airline companies to identify multi-stop travel routes, so that his final destination — the Russian Federation — would not appear in official databases.
He was detained for 72 hours, and another individual affiliated with him is also under investigation.
