Amid a significant increase in bomb threats targeting multiple institutions in recent days, the Police of the Republic of Moldova announced that every report is treated with the utmost seriousness and verified in accordance with established procedures, TRIBUNA reports.
“This phenomenon is not new for the Republic of Moldova. In previous years, state institutions were targeted by numerous false bomb threats that required the evacuation of people, the temporary suspension of activities, and the deployment of significant personnel and resources.
After a period during which such incidents declined considerably, we are now observing a resurgence of this phenomenon, indicating a deliberate attempt to disrupt the work of public institutions and authorities,” the police said.
According to the Police, although responding to such incidents is a routine operational task for law enforcement and other specialized services, the consequences of false bomb threats are substantial. Each alert requires the mobilization of a large number of personnel, the use of specialized equipment, and the diversion of resources that could otherwise be used to respond to other emergencies. Such actions also disrupt the operations of the targeted institutions, interrupt normal working schedules, require the evacuation of people, and cause significant inconvenience to citizens.
“There are indications that the purpose of these coordinated actions is specifically to disrupt the normal functioning of public institutions, create panic in society, affect the delivery of public services, and consume significant state resources.
We emphasize that such acts constitute criminal offenses and are being investigated by the competent law enforcement authorities.
The Police are taking all necessary measures to identify those involved and remind the public that individuals responsible for false bomb threats are subject to criminal liability under the law,” the statement added.
