President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, met today with a group of Members of the European Parliament who are in the country to monitor the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28.
During the meeting, the head of state drew attention to persistent actions of external influence that pose a threat to the democratic process. The President highlighted illegal financing of certain political entities, networks aimed at facilitating vote buying, disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and the preparation of potential acts of violence — all used as tools to undermine the freely expressed will of the voters.
President Sandu emphasized that Moldovan authorities are making coordinated efforts to counter these actions, while also stressing the importance of vigilant monitoring to expose manipulation attempts and help safeguard the integrity of the elections.
As the guarantor of sovereignty, the President reaffirmed her commitment to defending citizens’ right to a free and fair electoral process, underscoring that only Moldovans must decide Moldova’s future — this being the essence of sovereignty.
