Andrei Năstase, an independent candidate for Parliament, sent an official letter to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, requesting an adjustment of the trade tariffs applied to the Republic of Moldova so that they align with those applied to the European Union.
The politician stated that, in the absence of concrete steps by official diplomacy to immediately resolve the issue of U.S.-imposed trade tariffs — which are 10% higher than those applied to the EU — and given the irresponsible attitude of the Speaker of Parliament, he decided to raise the matter during his working visit to London.
“Following discussions with representatives of the Republican Party, including Greg Swenson, President of Republicans Overseas UK, I delivered an official letter to President Donald Trump requesting the adjustment of trade tariffs applied to the Republic of Moldova so that they match the level applied to the European Union.
This disparity directly harms small producers and emerging industries in Moldova and sends an unfair signal to a country that has chosen freedom, transparency, and partnership with the West.
Moldova is ready to compete fairly and to assert itself among free nations. Now is the time for our American friends to turn this recognition into action, and I will do everything humanly possible to make that happen,” said Andrei Năstase.
