Criminal Plan Ahead of Parliamentary Elections. CNA and Bălți Prosecutors Announce Over 30 Searches

The National Anticorruption Center (CNA) and prosecutors from the municipality of Bălți have announced the execution of over 30 searches as part of an investigation into serious offenses involving illegal financing of political parties, money laundering, and aggravated electoral corruption. The investigation targets a group of individuals affiliated with a political party, including decision-makers, members, and sympathizers suspected of implementing a criminal plan ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28, 2025, TRIBUNA reports.

According to the evidence gathered so far, the funds used in the illegal activities originated from the Russian Federation, from members of a criminal group, and were transferred via cryptocurrency accounts. These funds were layered and liquidated through illegal crypto exchange service providers, then converted into cash and distributed via couriers to final recipients. Anticorruption officers identified cash deliveries totaling approximately 9,000,000 lei, carried out in a covert and non-transparent manner.

So far, the searches have resulted in the seizure of over 800,000 lei (in various currencies), parallel accounting records, electronic data storage devices, and other relevant evidence for investigating voter bribery, money laundering, and illegal political financing. One individual has been detained for 72 hours and is to be placed in CNA custody.

Procedural actions are ongoing, and further details will be provided as the investigation progresses. It is important to note that, under the law, any person is presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
