The Vetting Commission held a meeting with the delegation of rapporteurs from the Monitoring Committee of the PACE

The Vetting Commission held a meeting with the delegation of rapporteurs from the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), who are on a fact-finding visit to Chișinău. Discussions during the meeting focused on the progress made by the external evaluation commissions for judges and prosecutors, as well as the challenges encountered in the evaluation process.

The Vetting Commission was represented by vice chairperson Andrei Bivol and international member Lavly Perling, who emphasized that in the evaluation process, the quality of the exercise takes precedence over its speed, despite high expectations from politicians and society. A fundamental principle for the Commission in the verification process is ensuring the respect of fundamental rights of the subjects under evaluated, thereby ensuring the fairness and equity of evaluations, the two members further stated.

During their intervention, Andrei Bivol and Lavly Perling reiterated the Commission’s commitment to continue its mandate, acting with rigor, integrity, and transparency, recognizing that public trust and legitimacy are crucial in this process.

Transparency in the Commission’s actions strengthen the trust of citizens and the subjects of the evaluations in the outcomes and decisions adopted.
