The Speaker of the Parliament spoke at the International Conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court. Greceanii noted that the Constitutional Court was the only body of constitutional jurisdiction that serves a shield of the Constitution protecting the values of the rule of law, democracy and fundamental human rights.

“I wish that the judges of the Constitutional Court respect and protect the values of our state, follow the interests of all citizens and learn from the mistakes of their predecessors.

Whatever the individual position, the Basic Law should not be replaced by politics. It should be on guard of society – not only through the paragraphs included in it, but also through their legal and correct interpretation.

Unfortunately, there were times when the Constitution temporarily became a hostage to group interests, and the Constitutional Court was forced to interpret and make decisions favorable to them. But I am glad that we managed to break out of this “oligarchic network” and restore the true independence of the Court.

I am sure the Constitutional Court will continue to be able to fulfill its mission of guaranteeing the supremacy of the Constitution, and wished the judges professional success, health, optimism and prosperity,” said the Speaker of the Parliament.
