Vlad Filat wrote to the general secretary of the Council of Europe. See the details!

The former Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Vlad Filat, recently addressed a letter to the General Secretary of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, in which he expressed his view on the latest events in the Republic of Moldova, especially on the state of affairs in the field justice, TRIBUNA informs.

According to his lawyer, Victor Munteanu, Vlad Filat informed in a letter the General Secretary of the Council of Europe about the violations of the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights, regarding him, informing him about the multiple violations in his trial, in particular, lifting immunity of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, contrary to the legal provisions,the  judgement of the case in closed session, the refusal to admitting the request for hearing witnesses of defense, the refusal to perform financial expertise and the revocation of his mandate of deputy before the irrevocable decision of the Supreme Court of Justice etc.

“All this, and other violations have led to the fact that several international bodies have qualified the process of Vlad Filat as politically motivated. In his letter to the General Secretary of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, Vlad Filat informed him that the new file on his case is based on the same facts as the first criminal case and expressed his concern that it will be used in the context of the electoral campaign for parliamentary elections, “said in a post on a social network, the lawyer of the former Premier.

Also, on January 17, 2019, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland responded to the former Prime Minister and assured him that he took notes regarding the concerns about the situation in the Republic of Moldova.

Thorbjørn Jagland assured Vlad Filat that he regularly follows developments on human rights, democracy and the law enforcement in the Republic of Moldova. In this regard, the General Secretary mentioned that he is constantly receiving reports from various entities of Council Of Europe that continue to be alert to the authorities’ observance of the values and principles of this organization, particularly before the upcoming parliamentary elections”, writes Victor Munteanu.
