The teachers and scientific and didactic staff of the education institutions will receive increased salaries as of 1 September 2018, according to legislative amendments adopted by the parliament in the final reading today.   

Under the document, the office salary of teachers and scientific and didactic staff of higher education institutions, general education institutions and vocational schools will be indexed by about eight per cent. To make the increases, financial means worth 130 million lei is provided in the state budget for this year.

The increase is calculated according to the percentage growth of the average salary on the economy forecast for 2018 against the average salary of teachers reached in the fourth quarter of the last year.

Data by the National Statistics Bureau shows that the monthly average salary of teachers amounted to a bit more than 5,700 lei in the last quarter of 2017, while the average wage on the economy, forecast for this year, is of 6,180 lei.
