PSRM does not intend to stage counter-demonstrations on March 25

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) said it will not mount counter-demonstrations in Chisinau on March 25, when the unionists announced they will stage a broad event to celebrate 100th anniversary of Bessarabia’s union with Romania, of 1918. At the same time, the party noted it supports the position of the President of Moldova Igor Dodon and is ready to take part in the formation of the National Front for defending Moldovan statehood, if the President makes such a call, IPN reports.

In a press release, the PSRM said the organization by unionists of a unionist assembly is a deliberate provocation aimed against the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and also a provocation against the multinational Moldovan people.

“It became known that the organizers of this event are ready to actively engage students of secondary schools and lyceums. It is expected that supporters of Romanian ultra-right groups and football fans from Romania will arrive in Chisinau,” said the PSRM. The Socialists noted the unionist parties, movements and personalities should not be allowed to take part in the future local and parliamentary elections and to obtain this they will struggle at the legal and legislative levels.

The Party of Socialists requested the employees of the Security and Intelligence Service, the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office to fulfill their duties and prevent acts of violence in Moldova’s capital and the infiltration of instigators from the neighboring state into the country, and called on the parents and teachers not to allow minors to be illegally involved in acts of violence.
