A new name was promoted by the media in Romania in the context of the upcoming presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova

The Romanian press has started to show interest in the possible candidacy of the former chief of diplomacy in Chisinau, Tudor Ulianovschi, for the presidential elections to take place this year in the Republic of Moldova.

Even though until this moment, only the current head of state Maia Sandu and the leader of “Our Party” Renato Usatii, have formally announced their candidacies, the name of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tudor Ulianovschi has been actively circulating for the past several months among mediatic circles and political analysts and think tanks.

The Romanian mass media has highlighted today that Ambassador Tudor Ulianovschi, currently a businessman and member of the Moldovan diaspora in Canada, could be a strong counter-candidate of president Maia Sandu, since he is clearly a pro-western candidate and has a proven track record on foreign policy and economic promotion.

Since we talk about a counter-candidate of a current head of state that is positively viewed in Europe and in the United States, but which, finds herself inevitably eroding in exercising her mandate, sees more and more discouraging numbers in national social polls, it is absolutely natural for us to be interested in “presidential alternatives with big potential”.

We find out that Ulianovschi was a technocratic and apolitical Minister, he was never a member of any political party in the course of his 17 years of governmental career, being the only foreign minister of Moldova who was never schooled or born in the Russian Federation, all of the others having been educated in Moscow, most even in the same university that Russia’s foreign minister Serghei Lavrov is an alumnus of.

Following his governmental activity, he engaged in the international business world, becoming an important person in the corporate community in Canada, the United States and Europe.

Asked by a famous Romanian journalist Marina Constantinoiu whether he is going to candidate at the Presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova, Tudor Ulianovschi mentioned that “The question is valid not only for Tudor Ulianovschi, but for each and everyone of Moldovan citizens, including members of the multi-million Moldovan diaspora abroad, who want to change things for better in Moldova. I also believe that I can contribute to this process of change, but, at this stage, may I ask you for a little more patience. Any rational politician makes its own calculations”.

The Bucharest press add that “… is a diplomat, negotiator, pro-active and sufficiently “sporty” to be able to slalom among the hot and challenging items on the current domestic and regional agenda of Moldova and Ukraine”, his name being present a lot in the local media for the past several months.

The long discussion that we had did not convince him yet to make an exclusive announcement for www.editiadedimineata.ro about his candidacy for the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova.

He will make it, when he makes a decision, at the moment that he considers appropriate. But he looks ready for that moment. Also, on his Facebook page, there is a motto of his saying “Quo non ascendam…” (“to what heights can I not rise”)
