Parliamentary Opposition Addresses Diplomatic Missions: “We Cannot Speak of an Independent Judiciary When There Is a Perception of Selective Law Enforcement”
Representatives of all parliamentary opposition factions have signed a joint appeal by representatives of the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition in the Republic of Moldova, addressed to diplomatic missions. In the appeal, they express deep concerns about the state of the rule of law, judicial independence, and the way the external evaluation process of judges and prosecutors is being conducted, TRIBUNA reports.
“We cannot speak of an independent judiciary when there is a perception of selective law enforcement, pressure on those who are not aligned with the government, and different standards being applied to representatives of the ruling party and those of the opposition.
Judicial reform must not become an instrument of political control or a means of eliminating dissenting voices. It must stand for transparency, fairness, accountability, and respect for fundamental rights.
A truly independent judiciary does not serve those in power. It serves the law and the citizens,” said Igor Dodon, leader of the Socialists.
