The regional energy situation, security of energy and gas supplies, prices, and energy efficiency were the main topics discussed by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu and Andre Baumann, State Secretary at the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and Energy of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, who is on a working visit to Chisinau, TRIBUNA reports.

The officials discussed gas reserves, developments in the energy market, and the measures needed to keep energy prices affordable for consumers. They also addressed the Republic of Moldova’s progress toward integration into the European energy market and the implementation of the objectives set out in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan.

Dorin Junghietu presented the progress made in 2026 in developing renewable energy sources and energy storage capacity, as well as measures to encourage investment, including the removal of customs duties on imports of wind turbines and energy storage batteries.

The discussions also covered energy efficiency programmes for households implemented through the National Center for Sustainable Energy, as well as mechanisms to facilitate access to financing and loan guarantees.

The Energy Minister thanked Germany’s partners for their support to the Republic of Moldova and for the expertise provided in the process of transforming the energy sector.

“We have much to learn from Germany’s experience, but knowledge-sharing works both ways. The fact that our German partners also identify areas where they can learn from our experience shows that we have cooperation based on results and genuine dialogue,” Dorin Junghietu said.

The two officials also exchanged views on legislative reforms. Parliament approved in the first reading draft laws concerning energy communities, the development of renewable energy generation, and the modernization of centralized district heating systems in Chisinau and Balti. The Sandbox mechanism, which allows innovative solutions in the energy sector to be tested within a regulated framework, was also discussed.

Over the past two years, the partnership has included several concrete activities. In March 2025, a delegation from Baden-Württemberg visited the Republic of Moldova to discuss the modernization of district heating systems. In October 2025, specialists from the Republic of Moldova paid a study visit to Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, focusing on the energy renovation of buildings and public communication.
