AGOS Green SRL, Moldova’s largest domestic producer, marks 27 years of activity. Founded in 1999, the company is the largest tobacco producer in Moldova, with its output intended both for the domestic market and for export.
“Every year, we plant tobacco on areas of 400 hectares or more, and the quality of our tobacco is very high, something that is appreciated by our partners. We are pleased that in recent years we have managed to increase the area planted with tobacco, practically doubling it. For example, while in 2023 tobacco was harvested in Moldova from an area of just over 200 hectares—which was 385 times less than in the final years of the USSR—in 2024 AGOS Green alone planted approximately 470 hectares of tobacco, even though a large part of the crop was affected by the severe drought that hit the country. In 2025, we planted 400 hectares of tobacco, and the situation was better because we provided irrigation for most of the plantation. In 2026, we planted 420 hectares of tobacco, and we hope the output will meet our expectations,” says Victor Ursu, the company’s administrator.
AGOS Green has recorded steady growth from year to year. In 1999, when it was established, the company independently cultivated an area of only 20 hectares and had contracts with third-party farms that grew tobacco to order on approximately 380 hectares.
“Every year, investments were made in the acquisition of new production facilities, fields, buildings and other necessary assets. Experienced professionals were also hired, helping to develop the company and expand its market. This is how we have achieved the results mentioned above,” says Victor Ursu.
For AGOS Green, quality is the most important indicator, as both the company’s relationship with tobacco-product manufacturers and the quality of the finished product depend on it.
“We are proud to continue agricultural traditions and to supply our partners with high-quality tobacco,” the company’s administrator says.
The company employs 135 people, while the taxes it pays amount to millions, including taxes related to employee salaries.
AGOS Green has set clear objectives for its future activity.
“They are quite ambitious, but at the same time important not only for our company, but also for the national economy. Specifically, these objectives include restoring the tobacco-growing sector in the Republic of Moldova; creating new jobs; increasing national income and contributing to the country’s GDP; and stimulating trade between the EU and the Republic of Moldova. I am confident that, through dedicated work, we will succeed in achieving these objectives, capitalizing on important opportunities and strengthening our market position,” Victor Ursu adds.
