Renato Usatîi, leader of Partidul Nostru, has announced that his party is working on a legislative initiative aimed at strengthening legal accountability for acts of violence against women. The statement was made amid public reactions to the case in Măgdăcești, TRIBUNA reports.
“An entire country, the media and citizens alike, have been talking about the case in Măgdăcești. Unfortunately, here we are always good at making statements, holding discussions and expressing condolences, but these serious issues must be prevented,” Usatîi said.
He criticized what he described as insufficient action to protect women from violence, arguing that political commitments to combating domestic violence must be followed by concrete measures.
“Everyone voted, we discussed the Istanbul Convention, everyone loves women during election campaigns — local, presidential and parliamentary — but afterwards, women are left alone with the regret, the violence and the problems that are theirs,” Usatîi stated.
According to the Partidul Nostru leader, a significant part of his party’s team is currently working on a legislative initiative that would toughen liability for acts of violence against women.
Usatîi also urged women facing violence who believe that state institutions are not responding quickly enough to contact him directly through social media.
“Ladies and young women, I declare this with full responsibility: if you are living at home with an ‘Armageddon’, with a ‘Rambo’ who raises his hand against you and you see that 112 is not responding, write to me directly on Instagram, Facebook or any social network where I have direct access,” Usatîi said.
He added that he would personally intervene in such cases, promising that an alleged aggressor would face consequences.
“We must not wait for the tragedy that happened in Măgdăcești to occur again,” Usatîi stressed.
The leader of Partidul Nostru reiterated that preventing violence against women should be a priority, rather than having authorities respond only after a serious incident or tragedy has already occurred.
