Education Trade Unions Announce Protest Tomorrow Outside Government: Government Is Failing to Honor Its Commitments

The Trade Union Federation of Education and Science (FSEȘ) has announced that it will hold a protest on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Chișinău’s Great National Assembly Square, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Employees from the education and science sectors from across the country are expected to attend, TRIBUNA reports.

According to the Federation, the action is being organized out of the need for the authorities to honor their commitments regarding salary increases for teaching staff and auxiliary personnel starting September 1, 2026.

FSEȘ emphasizes that decent pay for education employees is essential for:

  • ensuring the quality of the educational process;
  • retaining specialists within the system;
  • preventing the worsening shortage of qualified staff;
  • making the teaching profession more attractive.

FSEȘ’s demands addressed to the authorities are:

  • honoring the commitment to increase salaries starting September 1, 2026;
  • identifying and approving genuine solutions to increase the incomes of employees in education and science;
  • implementing a salary policy capable of attracting and retaining qualified personnel;
  • recognizing the strategic role of education and the work of teaching and auxiliary staff in the development of society.

“The trade union action is not directed against pupils, students, or parents. On the contrary, FSEȘ is defending the right to quality education, which requires well-trained, motivated, and adequately paid professionals.

We are not asking for privileges; we are asking for the commitments that have been made to be honored and for a salary system that reflects the importance of work in education and science. Without investing in people, we cannot speak of a high-performing education system or a secure future for society.

During the protest, representatives of FSEȘ and employees from the sector will deliver speeches. The Resolution of the trade union action will also be presented and adopted, while the demands of the education community will be officially submitted to the authorities.

We call on all employees in education and science to demonstrate solidarity through collective action and send a firm message about the need for decent salaries, respect for commitments, and the protection of the future of education in the Republic of Moldova,” the Federation further stated.
