Members of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia have declared the position of Bashkan of Gagauzia vacant, TRIBUNA reports.

Eleven out of 20 deputies voted to terminate the mandate of Evghenia Gutul.

It should be recalled that Evghenia Gutul, who took office as Bashkan of Gagauzia on July 19, 2023, was sentenced on August 5, 2025, to seven years in prison in a criminal case involving the illegal financing of the former Șor political party. The sentence was handed down by the Chișinău Court, Buiucani District. Recently, the Court of Appeal upheld the first-instance ruling, making it final.

On August 4, 2026, Evghenia Gutul was transferred from Penitentiary No. 13 to Penitentiary No. 7 in the village of Rusca.
