Eighteen state-owned entities ended 2025 with negative financial results, posting combined losses of approximately 242 million lei. The largest loss was recorded by the State Enterprise Moldova Railways (Calea Ferată din Moldova), which reported a deficit of nearly 90 million lei, TRIBUNA reports, citing the Public Property Agency (APP).

“The loss, however, decreased by more than 232 million lei compared to 2024, when it amounted to 322.6 million lei. This represents a reduction of approximately 72%,” the Agency stated.

According to the APP, other significant losses were reported by National Arena (Arena Națională LLC) with 42 million lei, CET-Nord JSC with 37 million lei, Metalferos JSC with 26.8 million lei, and the State Enterprise Universul Publishing House with 25.8 million lei in losses.

At the same time, several companies that remained loss-making nevertheless improved their financial performance. Mărculești International Airport reduced its loss from 23.5 million lei to 14.1 million lei. SANFARM PRIM cut its loss from 6.6 million lei to 2.7 million lei, while Mecagro reduced its deficit from 3.2 million lei to 1.2 million lei.

“These developments do not necessarily mean that all problems have been resolved, but they do show that restructuring measures have begun to produce results and indicate where further intervention is needed. It is important to note that not all state-owned companies are established with the sole objective of generating profit. Some manage strategic infrastructure, provide public services, or fulfill economic and social obligations. This specific role does not eliminate the obligation to ensure efficient management,” the APP said.
