Prime Minister: Moldova continues to rely on its partnership with the EBRD to accelerate economic modernization

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu held discussions with Odile Renaud‑Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference – URC2026 in Gdańsk, Poland, TRIBUNA reports.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the EBRD’s consistent support to the Republic of Moldova, including during periods marked by energy crises, economic pressures, and regional challenges generated by Russia’s war against Ukraine. He underlined that the EBRD remains one of Moldova’s key strategic partners and a major investor, with an active portfolio exceeding €1.1 billion.

Talks focused on advancing priority projects and strengthening cooperation in areas essential for Moldova’s modernization: transport infrastructure, energy security, electricity interconnections, energy efficiency and green transition, as well as private‑sector development.

Prime Minister Munteanu emphasized that the EBRD’s expertise is crucial for implementing reforms and investment projects under the EU‑supported Growth Plan:

“The Republic of Moldova continues to rely on its partnership with the EBRD to accelerate economic modernization, strengthen resilience, and move closer to European standards. Investments in infrastructure, energy, innovation, and the private sector are essential for building a competitive economy and advancing our European path.”

For her part, Odile Renaud‑Basso reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to continue supporting the Republic of Moldova through financing, expertise, and mobilization of investments for projects with economic and social impact.
