Vasile Bumacov has been elected President of the European Social Democratic Party

Vasile Bumacov, former Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry and former Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Japan and the Republic of Korea, has been elected President of the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE). The decision was adopted today, 6 June, during the party’s 12th Extraordinary Congress, TRIBUNA reports.

The meeting brought together delegates from across the country, PSDE members and supporters, as well as special guests. Participants were greeted by Vasile Dîncu, Vice President of Romania’s Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Member of the European Parliament.

Vasile Bumacov thanked his colleagues for their trust, stating that as party president he is committed to strengthening territorial organizations, attracting new, professional and honest members, and transforming PSDE into a modern, strong and respected political force.

“May today be the moment when we renew our commitment to the Republic of Moldova. Let us move forward with determination, seriousness and confidence in our own strength. Our country is facing complex risks, and time is running out. Moldova needs experience, balance and people who know what to do from the very first day of their mandate.

Let us move forward with confidence in our ability to build a Unified Moldova together. I make a firm promise: we will work honestly, listening closely to people’s needs, so that our descendants can be proud of us,” said Vasile Bumacov.

PSD Vice President Vasile Dîncu wished the new PSDE president success, expressing confidence that under his leadership the party will achieve its goals and that the partnership between the two political formations will be further strengthened.

“A party is rebuilt not in offices, but among people. I am convinced that the European Social Democratic Party will achieve its political objectives and return to government. Society needs social democracy, which puts people, their concerns and their needs at the forefront. I promise to be your ambassador in Brussels and within the European and international social-democratic family, promoting the values and interests we share. I wish President Vasile Bumacov and the entire team perseverance, determination and courage in implementing the political agenda and consistently promoting social-democratic values,” Vasile Dîncu stated.

The Congress also elected two First Vice Presidents of PSDE — Ion Sula and Alexandru Cauia — as well as the National Political Council, the National Audit Commission and the Ethics and Arbitration Board.

At the end of the meeting, the Congress adopted a Resolution expressing the party’s position on the most debated reform in society — the reform of Local Public Administration.

The European Social Democratic Party is a European centre-left party promoting social-democratic principles based on fairness, solidarity and socially oriented economic policies.

PSDE is a member of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Socialist International, and maintains a strategic partnership with Romania’s Social Democratic Party.
