On Children’s Day — and at the start of summer and the long vacation — President Maia Sandu launched a challenge for children: to read at least 30 minutes a day and to write to her how many books they read and what impressed them most, TRIBUNA reports.
“Dear children,
Today is your day — and the beginning of a summer full of adventures, play, and beautiful memories. I wish you a peaceful vacation filled with joy.
And what could be more wonderful than stopping for at least 30 minutes a day, in the shade of an old tree in your grandparents’ yard, on a bench in the park, or on the banks of the Nistru River, opening a book that carries you into another world?
Books can become your best friends this summer. They help you dream, travel through time and space, and discover new things. By staying away from screens, you give your eyes and mind a rest, and every page you read will enrich you with new thoughts, ideas, and courage.
On Children’s Day, I challenge you to a summer-long reading competition. Read as many books as you can until August 31 and write to me how many books you read and what impressed you most at the address [email protected]. At the end of the summer, those who turn reading into a true journey of imagination will be invited to the Presidency to share the impressions and emotions they gained from the books they read.
Have a wonderful vacation!” the head of state wrote.
