The Republic of Moldova will host the 135th Ministerial Session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, an event expected to bring together over 50 delegations from member states, including more than 20 foreign ministers, TRIBUNA reports.
The meeting in Chișinău marks the conclusion of Moldova’s mandate at the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. This is the country’s second time holding the presidency since joining the organization, the first mandate having taken place in 2003.
The session, to be held at the Palace of the Republic, will reflect the priorities advanced by Moldova during its presidency. The agenda includes continued support for Ukraine — with a focus on post‑war accountability and reconstruction — countering disinformation and foreign interference, strengthening security, and reinforcing democratic resilience.
Ministers will also discuss the Democratic Security Initiative for Europe, the Council of Europe’s future external action strategy, migration, and efforts to enhance international cooperation and multilateralism.
The media program will begin at 08:00 with the arrival of delegations. The official opening of the ministerial session is scheduled for 09:00 and will feature remarks by President Maia Sandu, a speech by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, and an address by Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset.
At the end of the event, the rotating presidency of the Committee of Ministers will be transferred to the Principality of Monaco.
Following the handover ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, Monaco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Isabelle Berro‑Amadeï, and Secretary General Alain Berset will hold a joint press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
