State Secretary Carolina Perebinos discusses Moldova–Ireland cooperation with Irish Minister of State Thomas Byrne

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Carolina Perebinos held a meeting with Ireland’s Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence Thomas Byrne, who is visiting Chișinău.

The discussions focused on the development of Moldova–Ireland relations and opportunities to deepen bilateral dialogue, including in the context of the Republic of Moldova’s EU accession process.

Carolina Perebinos welcomed the opening of the Embassy of Ireland in the Republic of Moldova and highlighted the importance of this decision for strengthening relations between Chișinău and Dublin. Both officials also underlined the active role of the Moldovan community in Ireland in advancing bilateral cooperation. In this context, Ireland’s development assistance and the contribution of projects aimed at strengthening resilience and supporting domestic reforms were appreciated.

The meeting also covered the agenda of upcoming high‑level bilateral visits, as well as Moldova’s priorities during its Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The two sides emphasized the need to expand the bilateral legal framework, particularly by advancing negotiations on agreements regarding the mutual recognition of driving licences and cooperation in the field of social security.

Regional security was another key topic. The officials discussed the implications of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine, recent developments in the Middle East, and their impact on regional stability.
