The energy dimension was one of the main topics discussed between the delegation of the Republic of Moldova, led by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and including Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. During the meeting, Ukraine expressed its readiness to supply coal for the Cuciurgan Power Plant (Moldavskaya GRES), TRIBUNA reports.
A particular focus of the meeting was the energy infrastructure of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, especially the consequences of Russian attacks, which caused electricity outages in several Moldovan cities. Volodymyr Zelensky and Alexandru Munteanu discussed responses to threats coming from Russia and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
In addition, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy thanked the Republic of Moldova for the Government’s decision to provide humanitarian assistance, which includes generators, transformers, and other equipment needed to repair Ukrainian energy facilities damaged by Russian attacks.
The parties also addressed the expansion of cooperation between the electricity transmission system operators Ukrenergo and Moldelectrica. They underlined the importance of grid synchronization, strengthening balancing capacities, and signing an agreement on cross‑border electricity flows and emergency support. Interest was also reiterated in developing joint infrastructure projects, including the 330 kV Bălți – Dniester HPP overhead transmission line.
The President of Ukraine thanked the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the humanitarian support provided, including generators, transformers, and other equipment needed to repair Ukraine’s energy infrastructure damaged by attacks by the Russian Federation.
Regarding natural gas, the interlocutors examined options for expanding cooperation within the Vertical Gas Corridor project, as well as prospects for future use of Ukraine’s underground gas storage facilities as an additional element of regional energy security.
