Eugen Doga International Airport – Chișinău has informed passengers and visitors about the payment rules applicable in commercial areas within the airport, in order to ensure accurate information and avoid potential confusion. Under the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, residents are required to make payments to resident sellers exclusively in the national currency — the Moldovan leu (MDL), TRIBUNA reports.
According to the institution, this rule applies to all shops located inside Chișinău International Airport, including those situated before the state border crossing point, as well as those located in international border‑crossing areas, including restricted‑access security zones.
These clarifications are based on the official response of the National Bank of Moldova to the airport’s inquiry, as well as the provisions of Law No. 62/2008 on foreign exchange regulation, Article 20, which states that “payments made between residents shall be carried out exclusively in the national currency.”
“To comply with these legal provisions, passengers must present an identity document or passport for each commercial transaction, in order to determine the buyer’s status as resident or non‑resident.
We thank passengers for their understanding and cooperation and encourage compliance with the applicable legal rules, ensuring a clear and lawful travel experience”, the institution stated.
