PSDE: Concrete and immediate measures are needed to protect household incomes and limit the impact of inflation

The European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) expresses its concern over “the alarming evolution of consumer prices at the beginning of 2026. Official data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that in a single month prices increased by 0.9%, and compared to January 2025 — by 4.8%, already exceeding the annual inflation forecast of 4.3% announced by the National Bank,” TRIBUNA reports.

“The most serious issue is that the burden of rising prices once again falls on the most vulnerable. Basic food products have become more expensive by over 6% in a single year. Equally worrying are the increases in essential services — water, sewerage, heating, public transport, and public catering — which directly affect the daily lives of families, pensioners, and young people. People can no longer cope with the exaggerated heating bills during the cold season,” the party’s statement says.

PSDE considers it unacceptable that, while citizens face a chain reaction of price increases, the authorities’ response is limited to statistical explanations and optimistic forecasts.

“There is a need for concrete and immediate measures to protect household incomes and to limit the impact of inflation.

For PSDE, protecting the population’s standard of living is an absolute priority. People need support and solutions, not promises!” the party added.
