Irina Vlah: Exclusion of the “Inima Moldovei” Party from Elections Has Drawn the Attention of the Council of Europe

Irina Vlah, leader of the Republican Party “Inima Moldovei”, announced that the unprecedented exclusion of her political formation from the electoral race has attracted the attention of the Council of Europe.

“We have received official confirmation: our complaint, which contains facts regarding violations committed against our candidates, has been accepted and forwarded to the competent structures of the organization,” Vlah stated.

She explained that in a letter previously addressed to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, she highlighted the risks of abuse created by Article 21 of the Law on Political Parties — in particular, the possibility of excluding a party from the electoral race based solely on suspicions, without a court decision and without evidence. “It was precisely under this provision that, just one day before the elections, the Republican Party Inima Moldovei was removed from the campaign without the possibility of contesting this unfounded decision,” Vlah emphasized.

According to her, the controversial law on political parties is currently under review by the Venice Commission, which must assess its compliance with European standards. “We will continue to inform the international community about the evolution of the situation and will use all legal mechanisms to defend the truth,” added the party leader.
