Retail natural gas suppliers have constituted the strategic stocks of natural gas required under the new amendments to Law No. 108/2016 on natural gas. The measure aims to mitigate possible sudden price increases and ensure the safe and reliable functioning of the natural gas market, TRIBUNA reports.

According to a statement from the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), in line with legal requirements, suppliers are obliged to create reserves equivalent to at least 15% of the average annual consumption of final consumers, calculated over the last five calendar years.

Through ANRE Decision No. 426/2025 on the obligation to store natural gas for the cold season of 2025, the necessary amount of gas to be stored by November 1, 2025 was approved — a total volume of 145,374.7 thousand m³ or 1,534,873.5 MWh — along with the list of suppliers required to establish these reserves.

Based on information submitted by suppliers, ANRE confirmed that the storage obligation has been fulfilled at a rate of 99.96%. In total, nine natural gas suppliers, as well as the entity designated to ensure supply to the Transnistrian region, fully met the obligation to establish reserves.

The entity responsible for supplying the Transnistrian region reported reserves amounting to 57,102 thousand m³ or 602,889 MWh.
