The case of ammunition smuggling detected at the exit from the Republic of Moldova to Romania is being investigated by a mixed group consisting of officers from the National Investigation Inspectorate (INI) of the Police, investigators and criminal prosecutors from the Customs Service and Border Police, as well as prosecutors from PCCOCS.
According to the authorities, criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 248, paragraph (7) of the Criminal Code — “Import or export from the territory of the Republic of Moldova, both through established customs control points and through other places, by hiding in specially prepared locations, by fraudulent use of documents or customs identification means, or by non-declaration or false declaration in customs documents of weapons and ammunition prohibited in civil circulation or subject to authorization, essential components of firearms, strategic goods, military devices, explosive materials, actions committed by two or more persons.”
Preliminary information indicates that the truck did not cross the border with Ukraine, and the models of weapons circulated publicly do not correspond to those actually discovered.
Following a series of investigative and procedural actions, which are still ongoing, two individuals have been detained for 72 hours, and multiple pieces of evidence have been seized.
The case is under investigation, with further details to be communicated later.
