The European Union’s firm support for the European future of the Republic of Moldova was reaffirmed today during the meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, who is on an official visit to Chișinău, TRIBUNA reports.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu thanked Roberta Metsola for the consistent support offered to Moldova’s European path and for her contribution to strengthening the country’s democratic resilience.
“The transformation of European states is inspirational and serves as an example for us—from strengthening the economy and improving services for people to the shared values we uphold. We want to offer the same opportunities to our citizens and will make every effort to ensure that by 2028, our country is ready to join the European Union,” stated the Prime Minister.
He highlighted the impact of the Growth Plan for Moldova, financed by the EU with €1.9 billion. Its implementation will help the government move faster toward European standards, grow the economy, and improve living conditions for all citizens.
President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola praised Moldova’s determination and emphasized the remarkable progress made in implementing reforms, despite constant interference from Russia.
“Moldova’s future is in the European Union, as confirmed by the results of the September elections. Your country’s determination continues to inspire us, and you can count on our support in carrying out all necessary reforms,” said the high-ranking EU official.
Metsola also noted that the European Parliament will work even more closely with Moldova thanks to the recent opening of its office in Chișinău.
It is worth recalling that on November 4, the European Commission published the 2025 Enlargement Report, highlighting Moldova’s progress in the European integration process. Over the past year, the country has made its most significant step forward in terms of readiness for EU accession.
During her visit to Chișinău, Roberta Metsola delivered a speech in the plenary of the Moldovan Parliament, held meetings with key state institutions, and engaged in discussions with youth and opinion leaders.
