Address to Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Irina Vlah: "The key to lasting peace in the Republic of Moldova is the international recognition of our neutrality"

Irina Vlah, leader of the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova”, in a video post, announces that she has publicly addressed the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, or, “today Trump and Putin decide what security in our region will look like. The key to lasting peace in the Republic of Moldova is the international recognition of our neutrality”, informs TRIBUNA.

In her address, the politician stated: “From the beginning, I want to express my appreciation for the efforts you are making to identify a solution that would ensure peace in Ukraine, which will have a beneficial effect on the entire region, including the Republic of Moldova. I am convinced that your efforts will yield concrete results for the benefit of everyone and the sooner this happens, the better it will be for everyone. The region of which Ukraine is a part, as well as the Republic of Moldova, needs stability more than ever and I am sure that the efforts you are making are aimed not only at ensuring peace in Ukraine, but also at stability in the entire region. Based on this observation, esteemed Presidents, I have decided to come to you with the request to examine, as part of the regional security package, the possibility of international recognition of the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova. Currently, the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova provides for the principle of neutrality, but this is not functional, which is also explained by the fact that it was declared unilaterally. Other neutral countries ensured, before proclaiming this principle, that it would be recognized internationally – the Republic of Moldova followed a different path and this, unfortunately, did not generate the efficiency that was hoped for from the start”.

Irina Vlah emphasized that “international recognition of the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova can really be the first serious step towards guaranteeing peace for many years to come, but also for significant progress on the path of ensuring stability at the regional level. Last but not least, international recognition of the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova would contribute to a faster resolution of the Transnistrian issue, and this will again have a beneficial effect on ensuring stability at the regional level”.

“Dear Mr. Presidents! Today, the vast majority of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova support neutrality as a guarantee of peace, security and harmonious development of the Republic of Moldova. This is evident from the opinion polls that are periodically conducted in the Republic of Moldova. By promoting the international recognition of the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, you, esteemed Mr. Presidents, will contribute to the practical realization of an aspiration that the majority of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have.

I would like to inform you, esteemed Mr. Presidents, that the party that I have the honor to lead – the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova” – constantly promotes the principle of the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova. This year, I even proposed organizing a referendum on the issue of international recognition of the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, but it was blocked at the suggestion of those in power in the Republic of Moldova who do not want our neutrality to be recognized, probably having other plans for the future. “However, this does not cancel the desire of the people of the Republic of Moldova for the neutrality of our country to be recognized internationally,” the president of the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova” also declared.
