In the light of some interpretations that have appeared in public space, we would like to clarify that the Judicial Vetting Commission continues to operate in full accordance with the applicable legal framework and its established schedule, without interruption.
Currently, the Commission is conducting hearings with the judges of the Central Court of Appeal, an essential phase in the extraordinary external evaluation process.
The Commission’s activity remains unaffected by the cessation of certain external funding.
Yesterday, President Maia Sandu, during the “Cutia neagra” show on TV8, said that the evaluation of prosecutors was put on hold, after the Trump administration suspended the funding of justice projects.
“Veting is affected by this decision, because the evaluation of the prosecutors was supported by USAID resources. Now this funding has been stopped and we don’t know if it will come back or not, but in the meantime we are trying to compensate with the money of the European Union, so the European Union should take over to finance this evaluation. But this will be a break anyway, it’s clear, so there will be another break after the breaks that have taken place so far,” said the head of state.
