Starting today, January 2, 2025, the euro will be used as the reference currency for establishing the official rate of the Moldovan leu, replacing the US dollar, TRIBUNA informs.
According to the National Bank of Moldova, the decision reflects the orientation of the economy of the Republic of Moldova towards the European Union market, which plays a dominant role in the commercial and financial structure of the country.
This change will reduce the fluctuations of the Moldovan leu against the euro and the differences between the buying and selling rates of the euro, benefiting the economy and helping to reduce foreign exchange costs.
