The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has informed that, until November 22, 2024, it has applied fines in the amount of over 7,000,000 lei on the side of the minutes, received from the Police, regarding the finding of the contravention provided by art. 47 first Contravention Code – “passive electoral corruption”.
These are fines ranging from 25,000 lei to 37,500 lei, per case, with individuals being sanctioned for claiming, accepting or receiving, personally or through an intermediary, undue goods, services, privileges or advantages in any form, for themselves or for another person, for the purpose of exercising or not exercising electoral rights during the elections.
Currently, the NAC is examining the minutes received from the General Police Inspectorate, and will make decisions on them. It should be noted that the person who committed the contravention act is released from contravention liability if he/she self-reported and/or actively contributed to discovering or countering the commission of the act of electoral corruption.
Article 471 was introduced by Law no. 230 of 31.07.2024 and entered into force on 15.08.2024, and the competence was assigned to the National Anti-corruption Centre.
