The first week of autumn 2024 has ended and, politically speaking, we can say that this autumn will be a really hot one, or, it is/will be marked by several important events. This is why, this Sunday, TRIBUNA comes with “TOP-5 important political events this autumn”.

1. The presidential elections 

The most awaited and important event of the fall is certainly the presidential election. This is demonstrated by the increased interest of politicians and parties to enter the race, but also by the discussions on the subject that hold the public agenda practically immediately after the ordinary local elections in 2023. There are things and data that cannot be anticipated at this stage , so the finality of the elections and respectively the election of the president will mark the fall of 2024.

2. The constitutional referendum

No less important is the republican constitutional referendum on the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, however, it seems to be in the shadow of the presidential elections. As the risks regarding this electoral exercise are still being discussed, but also the possibility of a failure – the results of this plebiscite will be a very important political event, which will mark not only this autumn, but also the next period, probably even years, having given that it is organized in the context of the opening of accession negotiations.

3. The start of the electoral campaign

The start of the electoral campaign is an important political event of this autumn and, above all, highly anticipated, because on September 20 it will be clear who are the candidates registered in the electoral race for the presidential and for the referendum, but also the presentations of electoral programs and promises will start for citizens.

4. The Ministerial Conference of the Partnership Platform

The Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Partnership Platform for Moldova, which will take place on September 17, 2024, in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova is another important event this fall. The event will be held under the auspices of Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

5. The beginning of the new parliamentary session

Deputies returned to work, in the new ordinary parliamentary session, starting on September 2. And even if no plenary session has yet been established and the agenda of the Parliament, of the factions, has not been announced, we cannot rule out that projects or statements of great importance by the legislative body could follow.
