Alexandr Stoianoglo: Moldova Has Made a Spectacular Jump in the International Investment Risk Rankings. Unfortunately, Downward

MP Alexandr Stoianoglo noted that “Moldova has made a spectacular jump in the international investment risk rankings. Unfortunately, downward. Down 19 places: from 82nd to 101st in the Global Investment Risk and Resilience Index,” TRIBUNA reports.

“In this context, it is worth remembering what happened on June 4. A day with two messages for investors. In Chișinău, the EU–Moldova Investment Conference was taking place. The authorities were inviting investors and talking about opportunities, money, and prospects. On the same day, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered the Republic of Moldova to pay more than half a million euros for violating the rights of a Slovenian investor who had already invested in the country,” he said.

The politician also noted that we are inviting investors, while they look at the rankings — Moldova is no longer even among the top 100.

“The war on our border obviously carries weight. But it does not explain everything. The index takes into account nearly 3,000 data points: the state of the economy, political stability, quality of governance, legal and regulatory risks, and property protection. These are exactly the things an investor checks before putting the first euro on the table.

And they check something else as well: how the state treats those who have already invested. If entrepreneurs fear pressure, inspections, searches, and criminal cases, investors see that too.

That is why it is not enough to tell them: ‘We are going to Europe.’ They want to know something else: Is their property safe? Can they trust the justice system? Can they defend their rights in Moldova? Or will they have to seek justice in Strasbourg? Investment goes where the business environment feels protected. And today there is one figure that says a lot about Moldova’s position: 101st. The signal is clear,” Alexandr Stoianoglo further stated.
