SCJ Vetting Commission Adopts Rules

On July 11, 2023, the Commission for the evaluation of the integrity of judges and candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice (The Vetting Commission) adopted the Rules of Organization and Functioning.

The Commission was appointed by Parliament on June 15, 2023, pursuant to Law no. 65 of 30.03.2023 on the external evaluation of judges and candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice.

The Commission’s Rules cover various aspects of the Commission’s operation and functioning, including the evaluation of judges and candidates for the position of judge on the Supreme Court of Justice. A copy of the Rules in English is now available on the Commission’s website at www.vettingmd.eu, also on the Facebook page. A copy in Romanian will be posted soon. The Rules reflect input from all six Commission members and draw on the experiences of other vetting commissions, including Moldova’s Pre-Vetting Commission. The Rules will allow the Commission to commence and complete its work expeditiously.

Later this summer the Commission will initiate its evaluation of judges and candidates as provided in Law no. 65 of 30.03.2023.
