Moldovan Biathlon Federation celebrates the 30th anniversary

On Friday, May 12, the Moldovan Biathlon Federation marks the 30th anniversary since its foundation.

The president of the Biathlon Federation of the Republic of Moldova  Dmitri Torner congratulated the biathletes, coaches, veterans and staff of the organisation on the jubilee.

“This anniversary is an  significant event in the history of Moldovan biathlon, a sport that brings together many great people. A sport that develops the best traditions of competitive spirit and honesty as well as contributes to the education of new generations of biathletes and the formation of strong-minded leaders,” said Dmitri Torner.

He emphasized that the Moldovan biathlon family is a community of professionals united by love and devotion to this sport.

The president highly appreciated the Federation’s performance and expressed confidence in the future prospects of the Moldovan biathlon.

” I will do my part to contribute to the development of biathlon and its promotion in Moldova and on the international arena as well, as it is a great opportunity for Moldova to move forward,” said Dmitri Torner.

He also wished success to our biathletes and expressed conviction that Moldovan biathlon will be represented in the sports Olympus and the Moldovan anthem will be played at medal ceremonies.

The Biathlon Federation of the Republic of Moldova was founded on May 12, 1993 as a public organisation. The highest achievements of Moldovan biathletes are two gold and one silver medals at the European Championships. The most titled biathlete is Alina Stremous. She is the gold and silver medallist at the European Championships in Arber (Germany) in January 2022. Another achievement of Alina Stremous is 10th place in the 7.5km sprint at the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022. The International Biathlon Union (IBU) leadership, represented by President Olle Dahlin, has noted the progress of Moldovan biathlon in the last two years. As of today, the Moldovan women’s team is ranked 21st in the Biathlon Nations Cup and the men’s team -22nd.
