Marina Tauber sent a letter to ambassadors urging them to take note of the abuses of the PAS government

The deputy of the “SHOR” Party, Marina Tauber, who has been placed in pre-trial detention in Penitentiary No. 13, has sent a letter to the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Moldova, denouncing a whole series of abuses against her by the PAS government. Among the illegalities she cited were the restriction of the right to a fair trial, political interference in the judiciary, the adoption of disproportionate measures in relation to a sitting MP, harassment of the opposition, etc.

In this context, Marina Tauber reminds the ambassadors that the Republic of Moldova, through the voice of the PAS government, has made several commitments to foreign partners regarding the observance of democratic norms and principles and asks them to intervene to stop these abuses.

„Unfortunately, in the Republic of Moldova, we have neither the rule of law nor independent justice, and the role of the diplomatic corps is to monitor and denounce any action that openly defies these supreme values. The strategic partnership with several friendly countries is very important and dynamically developing. The Republic of Moldova is constantly obtaining financial support, and one of the basic conditions is the promotion of genuine reforms, the strengthening of democracy, the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and political pluralism. All we ask from Your Excellencies is that you take an active stance when fundamental human rights and freedoms (to elections, expression, freedom of the press, assembly, pluralism, etc.) are blatantly violated, when the rights of the opposition are not respected, and when international democratic norms are knowingly defied. It is because of such approaches that, according to the latest opinion surveys conducted by various companies, including those commissioned by PAS, there is a dramatic drop in public confidence in this government. More than 65 percent of people consider the current government to be a catastrophe and just as many believe that the cases brought are merely political and typically rancorous with opponents”, says the letter.
