Deputy Managing Director of the IMF: I am very pleased to be here, the first IMF Management visit in this century to Moldova

Mr. Kenji Okamura, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) gave the following remarks today following a meeting with President of Moldova Ms. Maia Sandu in Chișinău.

“It is a great honor for me to meet President Maia Sandu here in Chișinău. I am very pleased to be here, the first IMF Management visit in this century to Moldova.

I have two big motivations that brought me here. First, to see firsthand your extraordinary hospitality to Ukrainian refugees despite the very difficult times.

Second, to demonstrate our strong support to Moldova in advancing reforms to cope with your challenges.

I would like to: visit various sites, listen to your people, and learn about your current situation and how we can help you.

Most importantly, I am here to assure you that the IMF continues strongly supporting Moldova and your people. We also call on the international community to support Moldova cope with the impact of the war in Ukraine.”
